EXHIBITIONS
We normally hold two exhibitions of members’ work each year, either at Amersham Common Village Hall or at the Chalfont St Peter Community Centre. There is no preselection of artwork for Beechwood exhibitions. The next exhibition will be held at Chalfont St Peter Community Centre on the 9th and 10th of May 2026. Application forms for members to exhibit will be emailed to all and limited hard copies will be available at the Wednesday painting sessions.
Prizes are presented at our exhibitions for the best painting based on a public vote. The Visitors' Favourite Painting votes are collected during the exhibition and the prizes awarded when the event closes on the Sunday. We send invitations to exhibitions by email to everyone on our mailing list. If you would like to join the mailing list, please read our Privacy Policy then send us an email.
CHARITY
Beechwood donates 10% of all exhibition sales income to charity. At the AGM held in March 2026 it was agreed that the charity nominated for 2026 would be Restore Hope for both spring and autumn exhibitions.
SPRING EXHIBITION REPORT
Firstly, many thanks to the amazing team who helped coordinate and set up this wonderful exhibition! From the admin team, the transport team, the helpers who set up and dismantled the screens, the members who fulfilled their stewarding duties so happily, the folk who put up banners, advertising posts (both virtual posts and social media ones!) and distributed leaflets, the bakers of delicious treats to the artists who produced such highly acclaimed work!!! The names are too numerous to mention - and I don’t want to upset anyone by inadvertently missing their name off the list!! So, I apologise if I have forgotten anyone!!!
38 of our members decided to exhibit some of their work at this exhibition giving us a total of 120 hanging paintings, 50 unframed paintings and a wide and colourful array of sundry sales items from greetings cards to coasters and felted bags! I am happy to say that 6 framed paintings and 6 unframed ones went off to new homes - 12 paintings sold totalling £1155 and sundry items totalled £725 which meant we could donate £200 to our chosen charity, Restore Hope. This is the same number of paintings sold at our Autumn exhibition and three times the number we sold here in Chalfont St Peter last spring! Well done everyone!
Even though donations at the Welcome Desk hit an all-time low, only raising just under £40, the kitchen did very well indeed, taking £426 in total. This is higher than the previous two exhibitions due in part to the decision to raise the prices slightly to reflect increased costs, but mainly to the delicious variety of goodies on sale! Home-made cakes went down a treat!!!
Until the final expenses come though I can’t give a final result financially, but I estimate we have made a small profit for the group.
As usual visitors enjoyed perusing the artworks on display and casting their votes for their favourite painting. Yet again, the results were close. I am attaching a list of paintings with their accompanying votes.
Many congratulations to the three winners:
1st Ian Davenport who received 15 votes each for his two beautiful watercolour paintings, ‘FLASH STORM’ and ‘AN HOUR AFTER DAWN’.
2nd Jane Mardle with 11 votes for her charming pastel painting, ‘FRON HEULOG’ (after Chris Neale).
3rd Rosalind Keen with 10 votes for her lovely oil painting ‘GARDENS OF VILLA EPHRUSSI DE ROTHSCHILD’.
For your information we had a total number of 235 visitors over the weekend which is more or less the same as the autumn show and slightly less than last spring’s show.
